Methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose is prepared by introducing ethylene oxide substituent (MS0.3~0.4) into methyl cellulose. Its gel temperature is higher than that of methyl cellulose and methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose, and its comprehensive performance is better than that of methyl cellulose and methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose.
Methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose is mainly used as a thickener, stabilizer, and protective colloid in building mortar and water-based coatings.

Physical and chemical properties
1. Solubility: soluble in water and some organic solvents, with the highest concentration determined only by viscosity. Solubility varies with viscosity, and the lower the viscosity, the greater the solubility.
2. Salt resistance: the product is non-ionic cellulose ether, which is relatively stable in aqueous solution, but excessive addition of electrolyte can cause gel and precipitation.
3. Surface activity: Due to the surface activity function of aqueous solutions, they can be used as colloid protectants, emulsifiers, and dispersants.
4. Hot gel: when the product aqueous solution is heated to a certain temperature, it becomes opaque, gel forms precipitation, but when it is cooled continuously, it returns to the original solution state.
5. Metabolism: Metabolism is inert and has low odor and aroma, which are widely used in food and medicine because they are not metabolized and have low odor and aroma.
6. Mold resistance: It has good mold resistance and good viscosity stability during long-term storage.
7. PH stability: The viscosity of the product's aqueous solution is almost unaffected by acid or alkali, and the pH value is relatively stable within the range of 3.0-11.0.
8. Low ash content: Due to the non-ionic nature of the product, it is effectively refined by washing with hot water during the preparation process, resulting in a very low ash content.
9. Shape retention: Due to the special viscoelastic properties of the highly concentrated aqueous solution of the product compared to other polymer aqueous solutions, its addition has the ability to improve the shape retention of extruded ceramic products.
