Product nature
Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is a non-ionic water-soluble cellulose ether with a white powder appearance and the characteristics of being non-toxic, odorless, easily soluble in cold water but insoluble in hot water. It is widely used as a thickener, adhesive, dispersant, suspension agent, film-forming agent, water retaining agent, and emulsifying agent. In addition to pharmaceuticals, food, and daily chemical products, its application areas are more commonly used in building mortar and water-based coatings.

Physical and chemical properties
1. Water retention: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose has superior water retention, and its water retention depends on its specific model when added in the same amount.
2. Water solubility: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is easily soluble in cold water, but difficult to dissolve in hot water.
3. Organic solubility: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is soluble in organic solutions and solvent systems composed of organic solutions and water.
4. Thermogelation: When the aqueous solution of HPMC is heated to a certain temperature, it will form gel, but it will form solution again after cooling.
5. Surface activity: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose provides surface activity in solution, acts as an emulsifier, and forms a protective colloid.
6. Stability of pH value: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is stable to acids and bases, and its aqueous solution is very stable within the pH range of 2-12. Caustic soda and lime water have little effect on their performance.
7. Non ionic: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose can be mixed with water-soluble polymer compounds to form a uniform, higher viscosity solution without precipitation.
8. Suspension: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose has stable suspension to prevent solid particles from settling.
9. Thickening and adhesion: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose has a significant thickening effect on the solution and can enhance its adhesion.
10. Biological stability: Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose has better enzymatic resistance than methyl cellulose, and its possibility of solution enzymatic degradation is lower than that of methyl cellulose.
